The main characters are rather believable and are described well, their emotions are shown through their actions towards one another and how they react to one another.
This is an adventure book seen through the eyes of Michael, a young boy who is traveling around the world on a yacht with his family when he falls overboard. Washed up on to, what at first look seems to be a deserted island, he soon finds he is not alone.
Set in the second world war in Italy, this book follows a family as they struggle without a father. At first, there are just simple midnight adventures but Paolo soon finds himself muddled up in all sorts of trouble. With the war slowly pushing ever nearer to them things get even more complicated!
